SUMMARY:Genesis Owusu
LOCATION:Tolhuistuin\, IJpromenade 2\, 1031 KT Amsterdam
GEO:52.383088;4.90303
DESCRIPTION:With his critically acclaimed albums 'Smiling with No Teeth' (2
 021) and 'STRUGGLER' (2026)\, the Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu
has made a name for himself internationally as an artist who doesn’t ju
st mix genres\, but rewrites them. His work has been honoured in Australia
with awards including Album of the Year at the ARIA Awards and has receiv
ed praise from media outlets such as NPR and Billboard\, who have hailed h
im as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary alternative hip-ho
p and soul. For his third album 'REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE'\, Owu
su retreated to South Wales\, where producer Dann Hume had converted an ol
d church into a studio and living space. In that isolated setting\, an int
ense and free creative process emerged in which anything was allowed to ta
ke shape. The result is an eclectic mix of funk\, neo-soul\, alt-pop and s
ynth-punk\, in which genre boundaries are constantly shifting or disappear
ing entirely. The album reflects on political tensions\, inequality and th
e ongoing friction between power\, the media and humanity\, whilst simulta
neously continuing to seek connection\, love and resilience.\n\nDetails an
