SUMMARY:Mo & The Habibs
LOCATION:Paradiso\, Weteringschans 6-8\, 1017 SG Amsterdam
GEO:52.362278;4.883945
DESCRIPTION:For Mohammed Aref\, Mo & The Habibs began with a friendship.
‘Habibs’ comes from the Arabic ‘habib’\, a term of endearment mean
ing ‘beloved’ or ‘darling’. The queer Palestinian musician and art
ist lives in Amsterdam\, where he met Sjerp: a Jewish-Dutch bassist who be
came one of his best friends. Together\, they made Mohammed’s dream of s
tarting a band a reality. With Mo & The Habibs\, he performs songs he has
written himself\, blending Arab and Western musical traditions. Pop and ro
ck feature alongside maqam\, the melodic tradition of Arab music\, and kle
zmer\, the festive and dance music of Ashkenazi Jews. The lyrics draw on M
ohammed’s experiences as a queer Palestinian in Amsterdam and the life h
 e is building here.\n\nDetails and tickets: https://onlyhere.app/amsterdam
