LOCATION:Proposition Studios\, Proposition Bethnal Green\, 279 Cambridge He
 ath Road\, London E2 0EL

DESCRIPTION:Proposition are delighted to present The Residues\, an exhibiti
on by artist Onya McCausland\, developed in collaboration with CLOSE Galle
ry\, alongside a concurrent live programme. The Residues presents new work
s by Onya McCausland\, continuing her ongoing investigation into landscape
s transformed by extraction\, industry and environmental change. Her paint
ings speak to sites where the earth has undergone post-extractive alterati
on: landscapes in which chemical balances have been disrupted\, materials
displaced\, and environments fundamentally transformed through industrial
activity. McCausland makes her paintings using materials collected from in
dustrial land sites\, mine tailings and waste dams\, transforming these re
sidues into dense\, site-specific colour. Through this process\, industria
l contaminants are reconfigured as contemporary painting materials carryin
g traces of the places from which they came and making visible the structu
ral changes that have taken place within the earth’s systems. Her practi
ce proposes a different way of understanding waste: not as something exter
nal to the landscape\, but as part of its contemporary material history. M
