DESCRIPTION:The Sun Ra Arkestra is the pioneering American jazz ensemble founded by composer and keyboardist Sun Ra in the mid-1950s\, blending swing\, free jazz\, electronics and Afrofuturist spectacle complete with colorful capes and headdresses. Since 1995 the group has been led by saxophonist Marshall Allen\, who joined in 1958 and has continued directing the band past his 100th birthday. Performing at Union Chapel\, the candlelit former church in Islington known for its acoustics.
