Clock House Tavern: Darts in Peckham Rye

Peckham Rye, London Free to play Free pub board; Parched runs an hour of free darts 196A Peckham Rye, London Mo-Th 12:00-23:00; Fr-Sa 12:00-00:00; Su 12:00-23:00

The Clock House Tavern is a restored Victorian pub overlooking the green at Peckham Rye, run by the South London group Parched (the same team behind The Montpelier and The White Horse). It is a proper local first and foremost, with oak panelling, leather banquettes and food from Gengelly's, so it suits a relaxed night with mates rather than a serious league session. If you fancy a few legs of darts with your pint, this is an easy, low-key spot.

The board sits in the dining space tucked towards the back of the pub, and play is free. Parched runs an hour of free darts, so you can throw a few arrows without paying for a lane or booking an oche. It is a single casual board, not a multi-board darts hall, which is exactly why it works for a small group or a couple of beginners finding their range.

The pub spreads across two floors with outside space too, so there is usually room even when it fills up. Weekend evenings get busiest, with the bar open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Walk in rather than book for darts. East Dulwich station is about a 15-minute walk, and buses 12, 63, 197 and 363 stop nearby.
