Join us for a curator-led tour of this literary house. An exclusive opportunity to visit the museum out-of-hours guided by one of our curators. The London home of this great writer is now the Charles Dickens Museum holding the world's most comprehensive collection relating to Dickens. Join our curator as they highlight aspects of his colourful life. The content of this tour changes as individual curators may focus on different areas of interest. For this reason we welcome back repeat visitors interested in learning more. Of the various London homes Charles Dickens occupied during his literary career, only one house remains today: 48 Doughty Street. This was the author's first house, and Dickens lived here with his family for nearly three years, years that changed his life profoundly. During this time, he finished The Pickwick Papers , wrote Oliver Twist , and Nicholas Nickleby , started work on Barnaby Rudge and continued his work as an investigative journalist and social reform campaigner. Still a relatively unknown writer when he moved here in early 1837, by the time he moved with his growing family, to a larger home, his works had made the name Charles Dickens famous across the western world. You will join a small group of not more than 16 people for a guided tour of this literary home. This is a fantastic chance to gain insight and learn from the expertise of our collections team. Tour lasts up to 60 minutes. Tour guide is a member of the collections team. Max group size is 16. Purchase permits use of the cafe at end of guided tour but no museum re-admission. No concession rates are available for small group guided tours
