Over the next hour, you're drawn into a real-time thriller where a police officer scrambles to decode fragmented clues, and the picture keeps shifting. Russell Tovey's Joe handles the night shift until Emily's call changes everything. Donmar's intimate space makes you feel the mounting dread, the sense that something is deeply wrong but you can't quite see it.
Chloe Moss and director Felix Barrett have built something that works precisely because you can't see what's happening on the other end of the line. You're filling in the gaps, following the logic of fear and uncertainty. If you want theatre that grips you through language and tension rather than spectacle, this does it.
