The Queen's Head, Bloomsbury

Three jazz musicians in a small room. The Queen's Head in Bloomsbury books them on the last Thursday of each month at 7:30pm, no entry fee. It survives on word of mouth, the sort of place that doesn't need to shout about itself.

Jazz works best when both the room and the listener are paying attention. You're close enough here to actually hear what the band is doing, how each player shapes the sound, listens to the others, the small decisions that hold it together. If listening is the point for you, mark the last Thursday.
