IISG: Bibliotheek in Oostelijk Havengebied, Amsterdam
The IISG, the International Institute of Social History, is a research archive in a former warehouse on the Cruquiusweg in Amsterdam Oost. Posthumus founded the institute on 25 November 1935, and it belongs to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Its archives include the papers of Marx and Engels, Max Nettlau, Emma Goldman and Trotsky, along with those of Amnesty International and Greenpeace. The material spans five centuries. The institute has been on the Cruquiusweg since 1989. You can walk in without registering first: you accept the terms at the desk. There are also lectures, book presentations and small exhibitions. The building is wheelchair accessible. Buses 42 and 43 stop nearby, at Veelaan and Borneolaan, and tram 26 runs to Rietlandpark.
