Green Note sits in NW1, and it runs on listening. The programming leans towards roots music, folk and singer-songwriters, with a streak of bands who carry a strong sense of place. Some bills sing in Gaelic. Others move between traditions, so the mood can shift from one night to the next. The crowd tends to come for the songs rather than the scene. People listen closely and stay for the whole set. If you want to hear something you haven't heard before, from an artist who is still finding their audience, this is the kind of room to try. A good night here depends on the bill, not the date. Read the line-up before you commit. The names will tell you more than the venue does.
