National Portrait Gallery
Westminster
1 upcoming event
The National Portrait Gallery is a place for looking at people. Its collection is built around portraiture, so the whole visit has a focus. You come for faces and leave thinking about who gets recorded and who doesn't. Photography has a strong presence here. Portrait prizes turn up in the programming, and they often let you see entries judged against each other. Go in with an opinion about which one should win. You will have something to argue about on the way out. Expect a mix of people. Some come for the art, and some come for an hour indoors with someone interesting to look at. You don't need any background to get something from it.
