The Lancaster Rooms at Somerset House host live performance art with a playful edge. The programming isn't precious or conceptual in the gallery sense. Magic shows are the kind of thing they book, which tells you something about what drives the curation here. They're comfortable with spectacle, with technical skill on display, with work that lands differently in a room with an audience. The real draw is the live moment, the in-person interaction. You get the sense the venue is drawn to art that creates genuine wonder and surprise, things that simply need to happen right in front of you.
