You'd go to the Photographers' Gallery in Soho if you want to understand how photographers work, or see what they're seeing. There are exhibitions spanning everything from documentary to fine art photography. They run courses if you want to learn the technical and conceptual sides of the craft, and talks where photographers and writers discuss their work and ideas. There are regular book events.
