Thursday nights at the Prince Albert draw people who know the difference between a session and a sing-along. This is traditional Irish music where three musicians lead the set: Mick O'Connor (tenor banjo), Eugene Teevan (accordion), Mick Bailey (guitar and vocals). They steer the conversation rather than perform at you. You turn up around 8:30pm in Whitton ready to listen properly, or join in if you know the tunes.
This kind of session is built on participation. Regulars know each other's strengths; the set is fluid, with no fixed list because the music dictates where it goes next. If you've never heard a traditional session, you'll quickly understand why people make it a weekly habit.
