Sunday Upmarket
Sunday Upmarket is one of east London's most eclectic weekend markets, set inside the Old Truman Brewery off Brick Lane. Every Sunday more than 200 stalls fill the indoor halls and yards with international street food, vintage clothing, second-hand vinyl and handmade goods from up-and-coming designers. It draws a young, creative crowd of students, locals and visitors, and the food alone is worth the trip, with everything from Ethiopian injera to Japanese yakisoba served from a long row of independent traders.
Opening times
Sunday Upmarket runs on Sundays only, roughly 10am to 5pm, in the halls and courtyards of the Old Truman Brewery. Arrive before midday if you want to browse the vintage and craft stalls in peace, as the food halls get very busy from lunchtime onwards. Late afternoon is quieter again but some traders begin to pack up before the official close.
What's on the stalls
The market mixes more than 200 stalls of food, fashion and homeware. Expect over 40 street food traders serving dishes from around the world, alongside vintage clothing, old vinyl, jewellery, prints and quirky crafts by emerging designers. It is a strong spot for one-off pieces and gifts, and many smaller vendors prefer cash, though plenty now take cards.
Around the market / getting there
The market sits on Brick Lane in Spitalfields, with entrances on Brick Lane and Hanbury Street. The nearest stations are Shoreditch High Street on the Overground and Aldgate East on the Hammersmith and City and District lines, both a short walk away. Pair a visit with the neighbouring Backyard Market and Boiler House food hall, the Brick Lane vintage market, and the curry houses and bagel shops further up the street.
