Swingin' with Strings: Ella and Louis sing Gershwin

The sixth annual concert features a performance of Porgy and Bess alongside a curated selection of compositions by Gershwin and contemporaries, recreating interpretations made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

Enrico Tomasso assumes the Louis Armstrong role while Nicola Emmanuelle performs as Ella. Both artists recently appeared with the Halle Orchestra and Dublin's RTE Concert Orchestra in Porgy and Bess performances.

The 50-piece Jazz Repertory Company Orchestra is directed by Ryan Quigley, who transcribed Russell Garcia's 1959 orchestration of Porgy and Bess. The performance runs approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including an interval.

'Nicola Emmanuelle's voice was a revelation, the embodiment of a modern-day Ella Fitzgerald.' (Suzanne Savage, RTE Radio)
