This is one for when you want the kids to make something real, not just go through the motions. Built around Julia Donaldson's The Snail and the Whale, they shape a whale from clay and decorate it, then craft a snail to go with it. Each child takes home what they've created, which is the whole point.
It's rooted in a story they'll likely know already, but turns it into something personal. If your 5 to 11 year old gets bored easily, this keeps their hands busy. Works whether they're already into making things, or if they just need something hands-on to do.
