Cafe OTO is a place to hear something new. The programme leans toward improvised and experimental music, with folk, psych and drone sitting comfortably on the same bill. You will see duos and trios as often as solo players, and many sets are built in the room rather than rehearsed to the letter. The crowd listens. People sit close, pay attention, and often know the music or want to learn it. If you like finding a sound you did not expect, this is the kind of room that rewards an open ear and a little patience. Food is part of the picture here, but the music sets the mood. Pick a night for the performers you care about, and you will get a clear sense of what the place is for.
