RBL Hayes is the Royal British Legion club on Station Hill in Hayes, a short walk from the village centre near Bromley. It is a proper members' and guests' club, founded back in 1933, and it has long been a darts pub: two boards on site and three teams that play out of here. If you are after a friendly, low-key game with regulars rather than a slick bookable bar, this is the spot. The one thing to know up front is that it is a private club, so you need to be a Royal British Legion member or come in as a signed-in guest. CAMRA members can use the bar as guests too, up to four visits a year. There is a bar with three regular cask beers, a garden out the back, and a disabled toilet.

The darts setup

Two boards, and they get plenty of use. The club runs three darts teams, so on league nights you will find the place busy with players who know each other and know the oche. This is club darts in the traditional sense: chalk-and-talk, a pint on the shelf, regulars cheering on their side. It is not a venue with automatic scoring screens or bookable bays, so come ready to keep your own score or muck in with whoever is around. If you just want a casual throw outside of match nights, the boards are there when the club is open and quiet.

Good to know

RBL Hayes is a members and guests club, so you cannot simply wander in off the street. You need to be a Royal British Legion member, or be signed in as a guest by one. Since September 2024 the bar has also been open to CAMRA members on production of a membership card, with up to four visits a year. The bar pours three regular cask beers (Courage Best Bitter, Young's London Original and Sharp's Doom Bar) plus a changing guest. There is a garden, a disabled toilet, and dogs are welcome if seated. It is family-friendly until 8pm, after which it is adults only.

Getting there

The club sits at 14 Station Hill in Hayes, on a residential street close to the centre of the village. Hayes railway station is the obvious arrival point: it is the terminus of the Hayes line into London, so trains run direct to the area and the station is only a short walk from the door. That makes it an easy stop if you are coming over for a league fixture or meeting friends who are members. Postcode for the satnav is BR2 7DJ. There is a garden if you want to step outside between legs.
