About
Table reservations from 6pm Live Music: Tuesday - Wednesday 8.30pm | Thursday - Saturday 9pm 'An absolute storm' — BBC Radio John Holt and Dennis Brown are two of the reasons Jamaican music sounds the way it does. Holt co-wrote "The Tide Is High" with The Paragons at Duke Reid's Treasure Isle Studio in the rocksteady era before going solo and putting "Help Me Make It Through the Night" into the UK Top 10 in 1973. His 1,000 Volts of Holt on Trojan remains one of the definitive reggae albums of the decade. Dennis Brown started recording at eleven years old, released over 75 albums and was called the Crown Prince of Reggae by Bob Marley, who named him his favourite singer. "Money in My Pocket" became one of the most loved reggae singles ever released in the UK. Wayne Hernandez, who has performed alongside Gorillaz, toured with Billy Ocean and Kool and the Gang, sung at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee and performed with Tina Turner, Roberta Flack and Madonna, takes on the John Holt songbook. Delroy Pinnock, his long-standing partner in this show, carries the Dennis Brown repertoire. Together they have been performing this music with a full live band to standing ovations across the UK, and the Billy Ocean quote at the top of this page comes from someone who was actually in the room. Expect "Help Me Make It Through the Night", "The Tide Is High", "I'd Love You to Want Me", "Morning of My Life", "Money in My Pocket" and "Love and Hate", played by musicians who understand exactly what made these songs last.
