Since the establishment of a Yugoslav state in 1918 and through to the 1990s, when the second Yugoslavia collapsed in war, Yugoslav unity was a contested political project that generated both strong support and significant opposition, domestically and internationally. Multiple conceptions of Yugoslav unity (also referred to as Yugoslavism) coexisted over time. The study of their interactions and their relationship to domestic, regional, and global transformations continues to generate lively debate across disciplinary boundaries and regional specialisms.This event is open to anyone with an interest in the former Yugoslav region. It will explore how migrations and mobilities from, to, and within the region offer a fruitful perspective for rethinking how we study its past and understand its present and future trajectories.Event programme:The event will begin with a short introduction to the special issue ‘Whose Yugoslavia?
