Timothy Taylor: Pub in Mayfair, London

Timothy Taylor is an art venue in W1J 8BG, and it reads like a space that knows its own mind. The programming leans towards abstract work, where a single colour or a plain surface does most of the talking. Pierre Soulages gives a fair sense of the register: dense, dark, and slow to reveal itself. Expect to spend time with the work rather than skim it. Rooms like this suit people who like to look properly, sit with a painting, and leave with one image still in their head. It is quiet and serious, and it rewards patience. If you come to art for the big narrative, you may want to look elsewhere. If you come for surface, light and scale, this is your kind of room.
