The darts setup

Darts here is club darts, not a row of bookable bar oches. The board is the home base for the club's team, which plays in the Hither Green & District Darts League against pubs and social clubs across south east London (Lewisham, Catford, Brockley, Sydenham, Eltham and beyond). League nights run a full 12-game card: two threes, three pairs double-start, six best-of-three singles double-start, then a team leg for the last two points. There are two seasons a year, a winter one with knockout cups and a summer one. Snooker tables sit in the same club, so a darts night can roll into a frame.

Good to know

This is a members' social club, so you are not just walking in off the street as a stranger. Anyone over 18 can apply to join, and there are around 200 local members. Best way in as a visitor is to come with someone who is already a member. The bar pours draught lagers, cider, bottled beers, wines and spirits (no cask ale). Families are welcome in the bar, and there is a garden with a BBQ. Beyond darts you get televised sport, live bands, quiz nights and twice-weekly bingo on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Getting there

The club sits on Beacon Road, a short walk south of Hither Green station, which runs Southeastern services into London Bridge, Cannon Street and Charing Cross. The station is roughly 200m away, so it is an easy hop if you are coming from central London or elsewhere in the south east. Buses 181, 225 and 273 stop nearby if you would rather not use the train. It is a residential pocket of Lewisham, so the club is a proper local rather than a destination on a high street.
