Buurtkamer de Heliotroop: Community centre in Bloemenbuurt, Amsterdam

Buurtkamer de Heliotroop is a neighbourhood room on the Heliotroopstraat in the Bloemenbuurt, in Amsterdam-Noord. Doras lists it as one of its locations, and you go for small local groups rather than a public programme. The fixture at the moment is Gewichtige Dames, a Tuesday group from 14:00 to 15:00 for women with overweight who want to meet others in the same position. Doras ran such a group before the pandemic and restarted it at the Heliotroop with about ten women, who shared food, sleep and stress habits and invited guests such as a pharmacist. The plan is to run a series three times a year, so there are gaps between them. Other activities have used the room through Gezond Noord, including a four-session course called Samen tegen Stress and, in 2024, a Monday afternoon drop-in for older residents hosted by a volunteer. Doras has also described an open drop-in with free coffee and tea for anyone looking for activities, volunteer work or a chat.
