Amsterdam’s comedy scene runs in two languages. Dutch cabaret is a long tradition with its own theatres, from De Kleine Komedie on the Amstel to Carré, where the biggest names play. Alongside it, a large English-language scene serves the city’s international crowd, with stand-up nights, open mics and improv most evenings of the week.
Boom Chicago, the improv theatre on the Rozengracht, has been staging English-language comedy since the 1990s and is the best-known name. Around it, bars and small theatres across Centrum, West and Oost host regular stand-up nights, from showcases with a headliner to open mics where new comics try out material.
Many listings say whether a show is in English or Dutch; when in doubt, the event page has the details from the organiser. Tickets for small nights are cheap or pay-what-you-like, while the big cabaret tours book up well ahead.

How this list is made

Summaries are written with AI assistance and checked against the source listing, and prices and dates always come from the listing itself; we never guess.
