Club Up: Club in Leidseplein, Amsterdam

Age 18+LockersRoom hire

Club Up is a small nightclub on the Korte Leidsedwarsstraat, just off the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, tied to the artists' society De Kring next door. It has no single sound: different promoters and collectives take over each night, so you go for a particular party rather than for the house style. Its origin is a fire regulation. De Kring, founded in 1922 as a meeting place for artists, needed an extra emergency exit to stay open, and found one in the neighbouring building behind it. That space became Club Up. The name comes from a simple detail: whichever entrance you use, you always walk upstairs to reach the room. On selected nights you can cross between the club and the society. Up describes its programme as running from familiar sounds to new discoveries, built on progression, diversity and dancing without pretence. The door is 18+, with ID required in case of doubt and no photos of ID accepted. Lockers are compulsory for coats and bags, and smoking is not allowed anywhere inside. Regular nights run on Fridays and Saturdays from 23:00 to 05:00, but times can shift around events, so check the agenda.
