About Zuidermrkt

ZuiderMRKT is a Saturday neighbourhood market on the Jacob Obrechtstraat in Oud-Zuid, Amsterdam, run as a cooperative by local residents. Go for organic and biodynamic fruit and vegetables, fish, bread and coffee from regular traders.

The fruit and vegetable stall is the heart of it, stocked largely with Dutch produce and staffed by members, who each work it four times a year. Around it stand traders such as Vis van Henry, Dave's Koffiebranderij, Bbrood, PieMan, Lindenhoff and De Boleet. There are tastings through the year, plus seasonal events such as a Haringparty and a visit from Sinterklaas.

The market has no profit motive. More than 400 residents belong to the cooperative, and money goes back into the market and good causes. The city district embraced the idea in 2011. Anyone can become a member, and the website explains what that involves, but you don't need to join to shop here.
