What you can play
The owners' own account, last published on the venue's now offline website, describes 14 darts lanes, two pool tables and two snooker tables. Those numbers date from a rebuild finished in September 2015, so check them if a particular table matters to you. Competition teams played here on weekdays, with room left for casual pool and snooker. The Darts Gids directory lists the venue as a member of the Nederlandse Darts Bond and of the Darts Organisatie Regio Amsterdam.
From pool hall to darts centre
The current owners took over Poolcentrum Sloten in 2013, when the focus was on pool and snooker and darts was a sideline. Regulars and volunteers helped rebuild the room, first with four lanes along the long wall, then six. Demand kept growing, so in the summer of 2015 some pool tables went to make way for a wall of 14 lanes. The interior went from dark to light pastel, and the new look got a new name. It comes from the address at number 8, the slightly out-of-the-way location reached by exit 8, and the eight-ball in pool.
Bar and parties
The owners describe it less as a café than as a large sports venue with a bar, set up so that non-players can sit without being in the way of the games. Football and televised darts ran on flatscreen TVs. Darts Gids says the venue takes birthdays and company parties. Contact the venue about a booking first: there is no current price list online, and we could not confirm present rates.
Getting there
Slimmeweg is in Sloten, a long way from the centre, and the bus stops Langsom and Osdorperweg are both within about 175 metres. Tram stop Oudenaardeplantsoen is about 640 metres away. The owners have always pointed to free parking at the door, which makes the car an easy option. The venue's website no longer loads, so phone ahead on 020 617 7062 to confirm opening times.
Common questions
- How many darts lanes does Bij 8 Eraf have?
- The venue's own account gives 14 lanes, built during a rebuild finished in September 2015. It also lists two pool tables and two snooker tables. The website carrying those numbers is now offline, so check by phone if you need an exact count.
- Can you play pool at Bij 8 Eraf without being in a team?
- The venue has said there is room for casual pool and snooker alongside the weekday competition teams. Those teams can take up tables, so call ahead before making the trip. Prices are not published online.
- What was Bij 8 Eraf called before?
- It was Poolcentrum Sloten until the 2015 rebuild. The current owners took over in 2013 and later changed the focus from pool to darts. The new name refers to the house number, exit 8 and the eight-ball.
- Is there parking at Bij 8 Eraf?
- The owners describe free parking right outside, and buses stop around the corner. The Langsom and Osdorperweg stops are both within about 175 metres. Sloten is far from the centre, so most guests are better off arriving by car or bike.
