About Studio/K
Studio/K is an arthouse cinema with a café-restaurant on the Timorplein in Amsterdam Oost, run by students. You go for a film, a vegetarian dinner or a night of music, debate or comedy under one roof in the Indische Buurt.
It opened in 2007 as a sister to the student cinema Kriterion and is named after Kriterion's old upstairs screening room. It is a non-profit cultural organisation, and about 60 students run it day to day. The largest room, SK1, seats 153. The film programme mixes new releases with themed specials and small film festivals, and a separate strand of events covers debates, talks, poetry, comedy, music and art.
The kitchen has served a fully vegetarian menu since June 2024, a decision the team took on grounds of sustainability, and the seasonal dishes include vegan options. You can book a table or combine dinner with a film through a film and dinner deal on each film's page. The building is the large former school on the square, redeveloped for the cinema and a hostel, and rooms can be hired for meetings, premieres, screenings and presentations.
