Beest Boulders Het Lab is a bouldering gym on Transformatorweg in Amsterdam, with a training room, an open kitchen and a fireplace you can sit by while others climb. You climb without ropes above mats, so you need no partner and no experience: a short safety briefing gets you started. Stay on afterwards for pool, table football or a board game. It is one of two Beest gyms in Amsterdam.

Good to know

Climbing and training

The hall is for bouldering at all levels, and the training room adds an adjustable Kilterboard, a Moonboard, a spray wall and a campus board. Under-12s are not allowed in the training rooms, and 12- to 18-year-olds only with a trainer's supervision or permission. Rules are the usual ones for a boulder hall: climbing shoes rather than bare feet or socks, no jewellery or watches, nothing in your pockets, and stay off the mats unless you are climbing. Alcohol before or during climbing is not allowed. There is a shop with climbing gear and staff to advise on it.

Prices and how it works

You register on your first visit, which costs €5 and gets you a member card. A first-time day ticket for adults is €19.70, and after that a day ticket with a card is €14.70. You check in at the bar when you arrive.

Food, games and children

The open kitchen works from a seasonal menu, and you can eat by the fire, on the floor above the hall or on the sunny terrace. Your own food and drink are not allowed. A pool table, table football and a shelf of board games are there for after your session.

Anyone from age eight can come at any time, even without experience. Children under 12 must climb under the active supervision of an adult, with a maximum of three children per adult, and 12- to 18-year-olds can climb on their own once a parent has signed a declaration. Youth training is available from age eight. Pets are not allowed.
