Games and events
The games are in a cupboard, and you just take one out. Backgammon is played every Saturday from 15:00. Beyond that, the programme grows out of what neighbours, friends and local makers bring in: live jazz and other live music, games nights, cooking nights, exhibitions, workshops and small neighbourhood projects. Neighbours once made fresh pasta for each other at a pasta night. If you have an idea for the neighbourhood, the café invites you to suggest it. Events are announced on the website, in a newsletter and on Instagram.
Food and drink
The café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner within its opening hours, with fresh dishes to eat alone or share. In the evening there is a changing dish of the day. Coffee, sourdough bread and cakes come from smaller local suppliers, and the café chooses local, organic and more sustainable products where it can. Wines are selected partly with wine shops from the neighbourhood, and the alcohol-free drinks are chosen with the Amsterdam specialist MOJU Zero. You will not find Coca-Cola here: the fridge holds kombucha, lemonades and ginger beer from small producers.
Booking and parties
Walk in if you are a smaller group, because tables are kept free for people who drop by. Reservations start at six people. For a birthday, drinks or a dinner, send an email to hello@cafeconrad.nl with what you have in mind, and the café will look at what is possible. Opening times are short early in the week: the café is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and on Saturdays and Sundays it opens at 10:00.
Getting there
Zocherstraat runs just west of the Vondelpark in Oud-West. Tram stop Rhijnvis Feithstraat is about 200 metres away, and the bus stop Overtoomsesluis about 160 metres. Coming through the park on foot or by bike is the obvious route.
