About Amsterdam in Motion
Amsterdam in Motion is an exhibition about the city, curated by Amsterdam Museum, in Cultuurpark Westergas on the Pazzanistraat. At its centre is a city model of 200 square metres, with a multimedia presentation projected onto it that takes you through 750 years of Amsterdam in 45 minutes. It works as a first stop in town, and it also gives locals a new look at their own streets.
The show follows the growth from a small settlement on the Amstel to the city of today. Afterwards you carry on through an interactive exhibition with objects from the Amsterdam Museum collection. The themes are current: listen to people who moved to the city and hear about the housing shortage, step into the world of Ajax and the fashion of the future, meet the plants and animals of the canals, join a protest on the Dam, or design a neighbourhood yourself.
Museumkaart holders go free, as do children up to and including 17. You book a time slot online, and the show runs in Dutch or English. The exhibition spaces are wheelchair accessible and there is a lift between the two floors, though the stand at the model has no raised wheelchair spots. From Centraal, buses 18 and 21 stop at Van Hallstraat, less than 10 minutes on foot. The venue can also be hired for events that include the model show.
