Bar Baggerbeest: Pub in Sluisbuurt, Amsterdam
Bar Baggerbeest is a bar, restaurant and club at Rudi van Dantzigstraat 1 in the Sluisbuurt, the new neighbourhood taking shape on Zeeburgereiland in Amsterdam. Go for stone-oven pizza, street food to share and a drink at the retro bar, or stay on later when the room turns into a small club. It works as the living room of a neighbourhood still taking shape on the sand flats. The bar is the public heart of Broedplaats Baggerbeest, a creative complex with 72 studios and workspaces, a courtyard and a stage. Its name refers to an amphibious creature that crawled out of the IJ silt. The programme ranges from live acts and comedy to dance nights, and acts can pitch their own idea to the bar. After dark the room runs as Club Baggerbeest, with an open DJ booth, a club sound system and a clear line on inclusion. Inside there are sofas, a stamtafel, table football, darts, table tennis, board games and an arcade cabinet with more than 1,000 retro games. There is a long park bench and swing tables on the terrace. The bar is wheelchair accessible and child-friendly, and dogs are welcome. Tram 26 from Centraal stops two minutes away. The kitchen also has gluten-free pizza bases and delivers to Zeeburgereiland, Steigereiland and IJburg. Bar Baggerbeest is closed on Mondays and opens at 14:00 on every other day. It closes at 23:00 from Tuesday to Thursday and on Sunday, and stays open late on Friday and Saturday. The kitchen runs until 21:00 and booking is recommended. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the room can host club programming or a private party from 21:00, under a licence that runs to 04:00.
