De Natuurkamer: Community centre in Slotermeer, Amsterdam
De Natuurkamer is a green meeting place in the Sloterpark in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, tucked away on the far side of the President Allendelaan. Go for the nature playground, the kiosk and the small programme of children's theatre, workshops and outdoor activities. It is a social enterprise with more than 70 volunteers and people who are finding their way back to work. They run the building, the gardens, the kiosk and the De Natureluur playground, and look after activities that bring the neighbourhood together. The kiosk sells coffee, juice and soft drinks with toasties, pancakes and chips. When the weather is good the hatch is open, and when it turns cold you go inside. The site borders the Heemtuin and Het Ruige Riet, so a visit is easy to combine with a walk through the wilder side of the park. Children's parties are a big part of the offer, and De Buitenbende takes eight to twelve year olds into the Sloterpark for nature adventures. Theatre try-outs for children, seasonal parties and holiday programmes appear in the agenda. The building can also be hired.
