Huis van de Buurt Het Claverhuis: Community centre in Jordaan, Amsterdam
Het Claverhuis is the community centre of the Jordaan in Amsterdam, in an 1892 former school on the Elandsgracht. You go for creative workshops, a neighbourhood choir, flea markets and a talk with a social worker. The name goes back to the Spanish Jesuit Pedro Clavèr. A Catholic youth foundation started here in 1959 under Father Reuser, organising activities and holiday camps for poorer Jordaan children, and the building has been a neighbourhood centre since 2011. It is a municipal monument, and Wijkcentrum Jordaan & Gouden Reael, the local residents' organisation, also has its base here. The Jan Bosmanzaal holds about 70 people and the sports hall about 25. Stichting DOCK runs the house and lists its activities on WijkConnect, and it says the building belongs to the neighbourhood. It is wheelchair accessible and has a wheelchair-friendly toilet. The house is open on weekdays from 08:30 to 22:00, and at weekends on request. Rooms can be hired through DOCK.
