About murmur

Murmur is a small music bar and art space behind a building on the Aambeeldstraat in Amsterdam-Noord, built around a hand-made speaker system by owner Chris Floris. You go to hear music outside the mainstream on that system, over dinner and a glass of natural wine.

Weekends follow a set shape: collectors bring their records for long DJ sets that start over dinner and run on into the night, for six hours or more. Guest chefs rotate through the kitchen, so the food changes along with the music. Natural wines come through local importers, and the bar works by BDS principles.

Weekdays are quieter and more varied, with concerts, listening sessions, exhibitions, and educational and solidarity programmes. Murmur sees itself as a community space as much as a bar. You reserve for dinner through the site, and the agenda shows who is cooking and who is playing.
