Walhalla brouwerij & proeflokaal: Brewery in Noord, Amsterdam

Serves foodTerraceLive music

Walhalla is a microbrewery and taproom on the Asterweg in Amsterdam-Noord, where the beer is brewed a few metres from the bar. Go for 15 beers on tap, among them LOKI IPA and NJORD Pale Ale, and for live jazz on Sunday afternoons. The taps run from tropical IPAs and fruit sours to witbier and dark stouts, and there are craft soft drinks and low-alcohol beers too. Food is simple: sheet pizzas and snacks. Since April 2026 there has been a south-facing terrace out front. The events are small and local, with a pub quiz, vinyl nights, tastings and brewery tours alongside the Sunday jazz, and most are free. Small groups can just walk in, and tables can be booked online. For more than 14 people, use the form on the taproom page. Aart van Bergen founded Walhalla in 2016 after a career as a jazz musician. In 2018, helped by crowdfunding, the brewery and its first taproom opened in an old garage on the Spijkerkade. Walhalla had to leave at the end of 2024 and reopened here on the Asterweg in 2025 after a long rebuild, closer to the ferries from Centraal. Illustrator Vincent Sapthu designed the new room with furniture makers Max and David: a tap wall, a solid wooden bar and tables made for the place. The brewery marks its beer with the Amsterdam Made label.

It is open from Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday. From Wednesday to Friday it opens at 16:00, at the weekend at 14:00.

At Asterweg 2 in Amsterdam-Noord. The brewery and taproom moved here from the Spijkerkade, and the new taproom opened in 2025. It is closer to the ferries from Centraal than the old site.

Not for a small group. If you want to be sure of a table you can book online, and groups of more than 14 can send a request through the form on the taproom page.
Is there live music at Walhalla?
Yes, Sunday Live Jazz runs on Sunday afternoons with different trios and small groups. The taproom also holds vinyl nights and a pub quiz. Events are free unless stated otherwise.
Can you eat at Walhalla?
Yes, but keep it simple: the kitchen does sheet pizzas and snacks. There are also craft soft drinks and low-alcohol beers if you are not drinking.
