History of the name
The building was Café Schut from 1953 and later Café Perry. Glenn Swart, Jacques Driessen and Alan Sodenkamp bought it on 31 August 1995 and opened Onder de Ooievaar on 29 February 1996. The stork comes from an insurance company in The Hague, and you can still see a tile tableau reading Verzekerd and Onverzekerd, insured and uninsured.
Getting there
The address is Utrechtsestraat 119, on the corner with the Prinsengracht. Tram 4 stops at the door at Prinsengracht, trams 14 and 24 and metro lines 53 and 54 are close by, and bus 22 is an option too.
