USC Universum is the largest location of USC, the Amsterdam university sports centre, on Science Park in Amsterdam-Oost, with a climbing and bouldering hall alongside a gym, studios and sports halls. You do not have to be a student: anyone can buy a visit at the Category III rate. New boulders go up every week on walls up to 4.5 metres, and the outdoor block is free for everyone.

Bouldering

Universum has a large indoor boulder gym with routes up to 4.5 metres, new boulders every week for beginners and advanced climbers, an indoor boulder wall and an outdoor boulder block. Anyone can use the outdoor block free of charge. Indoors you need a boulder pass and a reservation. Beyond bouldering, the building has a dojo, studios, a gym, two sports halls and a sauna.

Prices

A single visit, valid for one week, costs €9 for Category I, €12.50 for Category II and €14.50 for Category III. A ten-visit card valid for a year costs €75, €105 or €125. Categories I and II cover students, staff and graduates of the institutions listed on the USC site, and Category III is for everyone else. Payment at USC is by card only.

You reserve through the My USC app up to six days ahead and check in with a QR code. There is an introductory lesson on Thursdays, a beginners' course of four two-hour lessons, and intermediate and advanced courses. A three-visit trial costs €17.

Food and sauna

Eetcafé Oerknal has food, drinks and pool, open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 01:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 16:00. The sauna opens Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 23:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 20:30.
