Soho still carries most of it. Walk down Great Windmill Street or Brewer Street after dark and you'll pass doormen outside rooms that have been running for decades, alongside newer members' clubs that keep a lower profile and a stricter door.

The scene splits roughly into two types. There are the well-known Soho venues built for stag parties and passing trade, loud, central, easy to find. Then there are the members' clubs and gentlemen's clubs dotted around Mayfair and the West End, quieter, dearer, and built around repeat custom rather than footfall.

Door policy matters more here than at a normal club. Some venues are strictly over-25s or members-only, others take walk-ins all night. Dress codes tend to lean smart, especially west of Soho. If you're heading out as a group, it's worth checking a venue's own door rules before you commit to a night around one address.

Price works differently too. Entry might be cheap or free before a certain hour, with the real cost sitting in table service, private dances, or bottle minimums once you're inside. Weeknights are calmer and easier to get a straight read on a room; weekends bring bigger crowds and longer queues, particularly in Soho.

If you're new to the area, start central. Soho gives you the highest concentration within walking distance, so you can get a feel for a couple of rooms in one evening before deciding whether the quieter, pricier Mayfair end is worth a special trip.
