St James’

St James' is a contemporary art space in SE13 showing work that demands thought. The programming focuses on ideas about memory, surveillance, consciousness, politics. It's the kind of place that values intellectual rigor over visual spectacle. You'll find artists interested in making you think rather than making beautiful objects. The visitors tend to be people looking for work that asks questions rather than provides easy answers. Not a comfortable gallery experience. It's designed for serious engagement with what you're looking at. The work tends to stick with you after you leave, making you rethink things you thought settled. That's the point.
