Buzz Map: Insect DNA Mapping

Walthamstow Wetlands

Time10:30am
DateThu 3 Sept

Walthamstow Wetlands is one of London's most important sites for wildlife. This monthly citizen science project puts you in the middle of real conservation work: you'll set up insect traps, process samples, and identify DNA barcodes that help map local insect populations. No experience necessary; full training provided.

It's for adults 18 and up (younger people welcome with an adult). Attend once or build a regular practice; each session grows your knowledge about what you're discovering. If you're curious about biodiversity, conservation careers, or science communication, you're doing practical work as part of actual research.

The project kills insects humanely for DNA study; a necessary step currently, though the goal is to develop non-destructive monitoring. The data you help gather supports that future. Sessions are monthly, so you have flexibility.
