Kimberly Akimbo has a premise that hooks you: a girl whose body aged four times faster than it should. She's 16 but looks 74. It's a rare genetic condition, and the musical finds real wit and heartbreak in that split existence. She's dealing with first love, friendship, a heist scheme, all the things that matter when you're young, but experiencing them from inside accelerated time. It's funny and tender and oddly moving about the things that don't get easier just because your timeline is stranger than everyone else's.

This is the European premiere of a five-time Tony winner from 2023. David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the book, Jeanine Tesori the score. Both have form for musicals that genuinely hit. Michael Longhurst directs, and Maria Friedman leads. If you want something clever and witty that doesn't shortchange the emotional core, this is it.
