Cafe tHuis aan de Amstel: Cafe in Overamstel, Amsterdam
tHuis aan de Amstel is a café and restaurant in the old director's house of the Zuidergasfabriek on the Korte Ouderkerkerdijk in Amsterdam, right on the river. It works as a place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, a laptop session or a drink on the terrace with a view of the Amstel. The house was restored in 2013 and opened to the public in 2014 as a culinary and artistic café. Art is a fixture: paintings and drawings hang in changing exhibitions, they can be seen during normal opening hours and most are for sale. The agenda adds games nights, a pub quiz and Sunday music, and there is Wi-Fi throughout the building for anyone who wants to work. Groups use the house for meetings, weddings, workshops and parties, with up to 80 people for drinks, and the Atelier room looks out over the river. The garden and terrace are reached by gravel paths and a few steps; the staff help wheelchair users with ramps. Spaklerweg metro is a six-minute walk, Amstel station twelve, and the road in front is a cycle path, so drivers park on the Amstelvlietstraat.
