About Mediamatic

Mediamatic is an art centre on the Dijksgracht in Amsterdam, within walking distance of Centraal, that works across art, design and science. You go for exhibitions, workshops and lab visits on subjects like food, biology and sustainability, in the Mediamatic Biotoop on the water at the head of the Dijkspark.

Exhibitions and installations are free to see during opening hours. The programme also has artist residencies, living labs, and workshops and events you book through the agenda. The aroma lab can be visited with scent artist Frank Bloem, and a guided tour takes you through the other labs. Workshops are aimed at adults but children can join in some cases if you ask first.

The foundation started in 1983 in Groningen and moved to Amsterdam in 1986, passing through a series of addresses including Post CS, the Vijzelbank and the Van Gendthallen. It came to the Dijksgracht in late 2014, on a former municipal works yard. The site has a restaurant, Testtafel, and spaces for hire, and it is wheelchair accessible.
