Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ is a concert hall on the water at the Piet Heinkade in Amsterdam, a short walk east of Centraal. You go for contemporary and classical music, jazz, electronic and global music, in a glass building with a large hall that can change its own shape. Queen Beatrix opened the building on 15 June 2005. The Danish firm 3XN designed it, and it stands above the IJ tunnel. The Grote Zaal has 725 seats, with a ceiling, walls and floor that can all move to suit the music. The Kleine Zaal seats 100 and has a Fokker organ. The Bimhuis, the Amsterdam jazz stage, sits alongside under the same roof. SoundLAB is a hands-on space with about 100 instruments, used for workshops. Café-brasserie Dudok aan 't IJ is on the ground floor, and guided tours of the building are available. All halls are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchair users should take the main entrance, not the steep footbridge. Tram 26 stops nearby and the walk from the IJ side of Centraal takes 10 to 15 minutes. Bikes can be left free of charge day and night, and the Piet Hein garage is close by. There is no dress code, and the box office does not take cash. The box office desk opens from Monday to Saturday at 15:00 and stays open until the concert starts. On Sundays and public holidays it opens an hour and a half before each concert. The Grote Zaal has 725 seats. The free cloakroom closes 45 minutes after a concert ends, and people with hearing loss can collect a wireless in-ear system there. Only guide dogs and assistance dogs may come into the building.
