4.2

Podium Mozaïek is a city theatre with a cafe-restaurant in the former Pniëlkerk on the Bos en Lommerweg in Amsterdam-West. It presents theatre, music, comedy, dance, spoken word and storytelling for young and old, from the Netherlands and abroad, and much of it crosses between those forms. The white church, nicknamed the Theelichtje (tea light), was built in 1954-55 to a design by Berend Tobia Boeyinga. When the congregation gave it up, a foundation set up in 2000 turned it into a stage with help from housing corporation Het Oosten. Architect Jan Frederik Groos rebuilt the interior and left the outside intact, and the theatre opened in autumn 2005. Theater Rast, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, DEGASTEN and Re-ART are the house companies, and the venue also runs an education programme for schools. Downstairs, Café Mozaïek serves a Mediterranean-inspired seasonal menu and has a large sunny terrace. Tickets are sold online only.
