Much Ado is ostensibly about a couple circling each other, but it's really about image and reputation. Everyone's managing what others think, secrets slip out, and the gossip runs deep. The Globe's production sets it in a world of style and status - a high-scrutiny social scene where looking good is a kind of currency. In that context, the posturing and facades that drive the plot feel current, even though the script is 400 years old.
It's character-driven comedy where people are allowed to be complex and contradictory. Bad behaviour sits alongside genuine vulnerability. If you want wit without softness, this works.
