About Cinetol

Cinetol is a small pop venue, creative workspace and bar on the Tolstraat in De Pijp, Amsterdam, with around 250 concerts a year. Go to catch new and alternative bands early, local and international, before they move on to festivals like Eurosonic Noorderslag or bigger rooms like Paradiso.

The building dates from the 1980s and took its name from its neighbour, a former theosophical temple and cinema. In 2012 the district ran a competition for a new tenant. This plan won in January 2013, and after a crowdfunding campaign and months of building work Cinetol opened in May 2014. The rest of the house is rented out as studios and rooms to artists, musicians and cultural enterprises.

The face of the building is the Tolbar, opened in 2015, a living-room eatery with a large terrace on the street. Its menu is entirely vegetarian, vegan where possible, from lunch rolls to warm comfort food, and the hours listed here are the Tolbar's: concerts keep their own times, shown per show. Door tickets are sold unless a show has sold out in advance, and a hand stamp lets you step out and come back.

Common questions

Can you buy tickets at the door at Cinetol?
Yes, unless the show has already sold out in presale, which the website will state. Door tickets cannot be reserved and can only be paid by card. For sold-out shows, Cinetol points to TicketSwap.
Are there seats at Cinetol concerts?
Most concerts are standing. If a show has seating it says so in the event description. If you need a seat because of limited mobility, email lani@cinetol.nl so a solution can be arranged.
Is Cinetol wheelchair accessible?
The bar and the concert room are fully wheelchair accessible. The other rooms upstairs and at the back are not, and there is no accessible toilet. A quiet room can be reserved on request before a concert.
Does Cinetol have a cloakroom or lockers?
There are no lockers at the moment. You can hang your coat on the racks, but they are unattended and use is at your own risk. Lost items can be reported to info@cinetol.nl.
Where does the name Cinetol come from?
It comes from the neighbouring building at Tolstraat 160, a former theosophical temple and cinema known as Cinétol. The venue's 1980s building took on the same name. That neighbour now houses de Appel, among others.
