About OT301

OT301 is a collectively owned cultural building at Overtoom 301 in Oud-West, Amsterdam: the old Dutch film academy, squatted in 1999 and still run by the people who live and work there. Go for a club night, a film, an exhibition or dinner, often all under one roof on the same evening.

Four public spaces share the building. The Studios on the ground floor host parties, concerts, theatre and classes; 4bid Gallery shows art and performance; Ventilator Cinema on the second floor screens films and holds discussions; and Café Gilde, the culture kitchen that replaced the vegan restaurant De Peper in 2023, serves lunch and dinner.

The community organised itself as an association, EHBK (Eerste Hulp Bij Kunst, or First Aid in Case of Art), which bought the building from the council in 2006. It is a non-profit project with housing and workspaces upstairs, and it won the Amsterdamprijs voor de Kunsten in 2007. House rules are short and enforced: no drugs, no racism, no sexual aggression, and drinks stay inside.

Common questions

What is OT301 in Amsterdam?
OT301 is a non-profit cultural centre in the former Dutch film academy on the Overtoom. It was squatted in 1999 and bought by its users in 2006, and it combines housing, workspaces and public functions for art, politics and subculture.
What can you do at OT301?
There are four public spaces: the Studios for parties, concerts and theatre, 4bid Gallery for art, Ventilator Cinema for films and discussions, and Café Gilde for food. Workshops and classes also run in the building, including sessions for children.
Who runs OT301?
It is run by Vereniging EHBK, an association of everyone who has or runs a space in the building. The members share responsibility for the place, and the public programme is organised by the individual spaces.
Is OT301 wheelchair accessible?
Not all of it. The public spaces are spread over several floors, with Ventilator Cinema on the second floor, and the top-floor studio is described as not accessible for wheelchair users. Ask the space you are visiting before you go.
Is there food at OT301?
Yes. Café Gilde, right at the front door, is a fully vegan cafe run as a cooperative. It is open for lunch, drinks and events, and it publishes its own menu and opening times.
